THE AFTERMATH
Guy de Maupassant ends his great novel “Une Vie” with the statement “Life is never as good or as bad as one thinks.” Conservatives should understand that in politics, things are rarely as good or as bad as one thinks in the aftermath of an election.
Hat tip Paul MirengoffDEMOCRACY’S FATE
“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.”

It is quite possible the accident was staged. In fact I hope it was because that would mean no one was in the car at the time.

Definitions – quick and easy
Someone complained. They said they had to go look up anthropogenic. I said, what a shame. You did not need to go anywhere. Hold ALT and click on the word. If you don’t get an instant definition, you need to download Alt-Click. It’s so easy any fool can do it. I did it.
Click here. Then with your mouse put the pointy thing over the big blue thing that says CLICK HERE and click there. You will love it. It will make you smarter. It is the greatest invention since sliced bread.

More good news
The other day Bill Clinton ridiculed Al Gore, the man who would be president if only he had carried his home state. The former president reminded his audience we are coming into the season called Spring “known to Al Gore as proof of Global Warming.” The longer Slick Willie is out of office the better I like him.
Just when most of us are getting to know what anthropogenic means, the scam of anthropogenic global warming appears to be passing into the dustpan of history. When in 2007 the press turned from Hillary to Barack you knew Obama was going to be the candidate. When the likes of Bill Clinton ridicules the almost former president Albert Gore and his game, you know Big Al and his game are past their peak.

OBAMACARE AND THE SUPREME COURT
As of March 29th thirteen states have joined in a legal challenge to the law known as Obamacare. According to the New York Times their case rests on two arguments, (A) the Constitution does not permit the Federal government to mandate the purchase of goods or services from the private sector, and (B) the provisions of Obamacare overstep states rights as provided in the Constitution. The Times predicts failure because “the law was carefully drafted to withstand just this kind of challenge.”
For the government to asses a penalty for a citizen’s failure to make a specified purchase in the private sector would undoubtedly be deemed unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Therefore the new law calls it a tax. In a court of law names do not prevail, attributes do. You cannot avoid licensing your dog by calling it a cat. This argument is weak.
The second argument is very interesting indeed. States rights have been Fabianized away over many years. A favorable ruling on this issue could stop the slide and maybe even reverse the trend. A hearing on this issue could have impact well beyond Obamacare.
I fear the stir among the states is but a scream in reaction to sudden pain that will subside with time, and along with it, the determination to pursue the SOTUS course. If the November elections offer hope of legislative appeal it would further lessen the incentive to go with the Supreme Court option. That would be unfortunate for we would miss an opportunity to watch a landmark case.

China sends Rio Tinto employees to jail
SHANGHAI (AP)
A Chinese court has sentenced four employees of mining giant Rio Tinto to jail terms of seven to 14 years on bribery and commercial secrets charges.
The court in Shanghai said Monday that Australian national Stern Hu and three Chinese co-workers were guilty of charges of bribery and stealing business secrets.
The stiff sentences come in a case seen as a barometer of China’s treatment of foreign business at a time of rising trade friction.
I have to wonder if you can do business in China without engaging in some generous cooperation. As a nation, they did a little door opening themselves with the Clintons.

Good news, and we can surely use it!
Here is a sign Congress, including a great many Democrats, realize what a big mistake Obama is making in his treatment of Israel. This is the first concerted break I have noticed between Obama and elected Democrats.
The Jerusalem Post reports:
Meanwhile, in Washington, 337 congressmen – three-quarters of the House of Representatives – signed a bipartisan letter to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton expressing solid support for Israel and the expectation that differences between Jerusalem and Washington will be smoothed over quickly and in private.
“We are writing to reaffirm our commitment to the unbreakable bond that exists between our country and the State of Israel and to express to you our deep concern over recent tension,” the letter read. “A strong Israel is an asset to the national security of the United States and brings stability to the Middle East.
Obama is a master at subtle insults, inside insults. Some months ago he was photographed with the bottom of his shoes to the camera as he spoke with Netanyahu on the phone. The average American would think little of it, but in the Mid-East it is a show of utter contempt. Congress be praised for clarifying to Israel that the rift is with Obama, not with the United States.

HILL and BILL
We see less of Bill these days, but when we do, it’s the same old Bill with his ever present half smile half grin. He seems to be a man who takes nothing so seriously to heart that it would interfere with the fun of the game. When he spins his lies it is with a devil may care, what’s the difference anyhow attitude. Monica claims he told her he does not distinguish between truth and fiction. That could be true.
Hillary is the serious one and she is suffering the strains that come with the demeanor. You can see it in her face and sense it in her deliberations. She is ambitious, dedicated and young enough to still hold aspirations for the presidency. I suspect she does not share her boss’s full agenda and she is smart enough to see what a mess he is making of foreign policy. If Obama does not recover from his current slide, do you suppose she might try to challenge Obama for the Democratic nomination for 2012?

Forced into silence
Random Thots was silenced for 5 days, prevented by external forces from publishing anything of a controversial nature, or of any nature, for that matter. We were victimized by a great storm of wind and rain that brought destruction to Democrats and Republicans alike. Even Independents were not spared by the mighty force of the Almighty.
Our town services people performed admirably but they were overwhelmed by the extent of the damage. Citizens, including this one, got out their chain saws and cut passages through fallen trees to give neighbors access to the outside world . Still, we went 4 days without power, central heat, water or internet. Two nearby neighbors lost part of their homes as monstrous oak trees came crashing through the house, propelled to destruction by swirling winds of hurricane force . Elsewhere a woman was killed by a falling tree as she walked with her husband. Another died instantly while driving when a falling tree caught her car.
We tell you this not to complain, for as disasters go this does not even qualify. It is simply to explain why we have been absent. We are back. Tell your friends to check us out. We are Bob B and a lazy cat named Loosey.
