THE MAJORITY IS SILENT NO MORE

It is easy to lose sight of the fact that conservatives are the majority in the land. We leave the shouting and screaming to those who think they can bring perfection to an imperfect world. Conservatives busy themselves with tilling the fields, striving to achieve their goals, and yes, painting that picket fence so often derided by the left. We find time to teach our children right from wrong and to help a neighbor in need. There is just no time left to complain about what government has not done for us.

But every once in a while, into the life of a man, a society or nation, there comes a mortal threat. Normal pursuits are put aside. We rise to meet the threat and we are the silent majority no more. Our voices are heard; heads are turned, the left is surprised. They forgot we were there. The left is confused for they understand us not. First they smirk, then they fear, then they fight with smear once that they see that we are here.

The left fears our guns but we bring not guns to the fight. Our weapon is our vote. We are the majority but that is to no avail if we do not bring our weapon to the scene of the battle. Vote. What else can you do? You can give up a day in November and volunteer to drive voters to the polls. That’s just one idea.

THE DAWN AWAKENS, Part II

We have noticed some recent headlines and comments that indicate the business world is beginning to understand the Obama Administration.

“Companies are turning in healthy profits, and are sitting on a record-breaking pile of cash — nearly $1 trillion and growing.” They are reluctant to invest in growth until the the content of new laws becomes clear.

“Ben Bernanke said last week that there is “unusual uncertainty” about the nation’s economic outlook”

“This is not an environment that encourages spending and commitment,” said Howard Silverblatt, a senior index analyst with S&P.”

“These are fundamental concerns,” said Goldstein. “There’s a reason why businesses and consumers are nervous about where we are, and where we are headed”

“Finance Overhaul Casts Long Shadow on the Plains” Farmers are coming to understand that they may not be able to hedge their crops under the new financial reform laws.

“Morgan Stanley Says Government Defaults Inevitable”

Warren Buffet and Bill Gates were strong supporters of Obama when he was running for office. We have yet to hear from them.

LIFE ON THE BORDER

From the San Juan Monitor, the local newspaper in a Texas border town.

An 18-year-old woman, whose name was not disclosed by police, was walking to a friend’s house about 6:30 p.m. Sunday.

A black van pulled up alongside her and three men hopped out, San Juan Police Chief Juan Gonzalez said. They snatched the girl, blindfolded her and took her to Reynosa [Mexico]. The kidnappers began calling the woman’s family demanding ransom money.

Once the abductors realized their victim’s family would not be able to pay a ransom, they dumped her in a random field. She had her cell phone, but police still had no idea where she was.

U.S. authorities did not contact their Mexican counterparts because they did not know whether they were corrupted or connected to the girl’s captors, Gonzalez said.

People that she came across didn’t want to help,” the chief said. “People are living in fear in Mexico.”

This happens to be a Texas story. Arizona is no different, except that some of the towns smaller than San Juan are overwhelmed. Instead of fighting Arizona, Obama should send a contingent of the U.S. Army to the border as President Wilson did in 1914.

GROWTH OF GOVERNMENT IS DEMOCRACY’S DESTINY

The Vicious Cycle

No worker wants to see his employer downsized. Downsizing brings job insecurity and lessened opportunity for those employed. Government employees at all levels realize it’s the Democratic Party that fights for growth and expansion of government, and with it, security and opportunity for the government worker. The Democratic Party is the party for the government, of the government and by the government.

The rest of the people pay for the salaries and benefits enjoyed by government employees. The Republican Party calls for limited government, reduction of government expenditures and lower taxes. The Republican Party is the party of the rest of the people.

The recent passage of the 26 billion dollar funding bill is a prime example of the vicious cycle at work. It was promoted by the Administration as a bill to fund salaries for teachers, police, firemen and first responders, which indeed it was, government workers all.

The bigger government gets, the more people there are who vote for bigger government. Democracy is a fragile system. This is just one of its vulnerabilities.

A BAND OF GYPSIES

_ _ _ HALASZBASTYA _ _ _ The Fisherman's Bastion

Budapest is without a doubt, one of the most beautiful cities in all of Europe. Its magnificence is best experienced at night, either from the Chain Bridge or better still, from a boat gliding along the River Donau that separates Buda from Pest. We call the river the Danube. The great Buda Castle dominates the evening sky, sitting fully lit up and high on a hill on the east bank. In the daytime your attention is drawn to the Parliament building across the river in Pest.  It’s impressive size and intricate baroque architecture calls out for you to come and explore.

No city in Europe is richer in history than Buda and Pest, two cities that became one in 1873. To study its past is to read of the Magyars, Ottomans and even the Celts. The language is a difficult one to learn and closer to Finnish than to any nearby Slavic tongue. Nestled between Transylvania and Bohemia, Hungary is as much the land of Gypsies as is Romania.

Turn up the sound, fill up the screen and listen to this zesty performance by the Budapest Gypsy Symphony Orchestra.

TAXES HAVE CONSEQUENCES

Rational Expectations

John Kerry docks his yacht in Rhode Island where taxes are lower rather than in Boston Harbor which would be a little more convenient. Kerry isn’t the only one, you can be sure of that. Rhode Island gets more revenue because their tax rate is lower. Massachusetts gets less revenue because their tax rate is higher.

Do not be critical of John Kerry for moving his boat, excuse me, his yacht. It was the smart thing to do. You and I would do the same if we had a yacht, in my case it would be a boat.

This is but one example illustrating why a 10% increase in tax rates does not produce a 10% increase in revenue. People have alternatives. Economists have a name for it. They call it the law of “Rational Expectations”.

Debt and Taxes
California and New York are two of the states in the nation with the weakest balance sheets.
California and New York are two of the states in the nation with the highest rates of taxation.
This is not a coincidence.

Monday
Obama says (again) “It took nearly a decade to dig the hole that we’re in”.
The man should know. He was manning a shovel at ACORN for much of the time.

How about plastering it one time on the Internet?

More climate change scientific fabrications exposed
An inquiry by the InterAcademy Council (IAC) into the basis  of a report issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) found it was based on a magazine article by an Indian author who said his magazine article was just a speculation.

Palin’s endorsement carries the primary for Miller over Murkowski
Miller’s win was a major victory for the Tea Party movement and marked its first defeat of a sitting senator in a primary. It is the Tea Party’s way of saying, if they won’t come to us we will come to them.

We will be away for a week. But stay tuned; posts are scheduled so there will be something new every day. We will be back Sept 13 and pledge to remain on the job with hard hitting articles right up to November.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZING AND ARIZONA

The job of a community organizer is not to organize for efficiency  and a smoother running society. The job is more like that of a union organizer. It is to stir up people, get them angry and then focus their anger in a direction that gives power to the organizer. The job is not to unite, but to divide; to divide and conquer.

Obama is dividing the country. He seems not to care. His poll ratings are in free fall. He seems not to care. His party is going to get thrashed in November. He seems not to care. Arizona is enforcing the law. About that, he cares. His Justice Department has just instituted another lawsuit against Arizona law enforcement.

Obama’s chances for a second term look grim. He seems not to care. He must have a plan. What could it be?  He has over 2 years to push for an amnesty program with voting rights. It is a rank speculation, but could that be part of the plan?

THE PALESTINIAN CONTRIBUTION TO THE PEACE EFFORT

Palestinians kill 4 Israelis on eve of peace talks.

By MARK LAVIE, Associated Press Tue Aug 31

JERUSALEM – Palestinian gunmen opened fire Tuesday on an Israeli car in the West Bank and killed four passengers. The Islamic militant group Hamas claimed responsibility.

Assailants firing from a passing car riddled the vehicle with bullets as it traveled near Hebron.

One of the victims was pregnant, said police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld. Israel’s national rescue service said the victims were two men and two women, everyone in the car was killed.

About 3,000 people joined a rally in Gaza to celebrate the attack.

It was a drive by spray of bullets. A semi-random attack, any Jew will do. That’s grass roots political participation, Palestinian style.

A Google search turned it up in all the major media except the New York Times! But it may be there somewhere, perhaps on the sports page.
