WALKER WINS WISCONSIN, WHAT DOES IT MEAN

People vote their pocketbook and their deepest convictions.  Economics, abortion, gun rights and distaste for the opposing party are the four factors, broadly defined, that figure prominently in any election.  The Walker recall attempt only involved two, economics and opponent distaste.  Economics was the determining factor.

When campaigning for office in 2009, Scott Walker pledged to bring down the cost of state government and to deliver on the economy.  He did both.  Imagine that, a politician who keeps his promises.  It didn’t go unnoticed.  Wisconsin’s unionized government workers were among the very highest paid in any state and so far above their private sector equivalents that a sense of unfairness prevailed among the voters.  Why should I subsidize a government worker with my tax dollars when he or she already makes more than I do for the same work?

Unemployment in Wisconsin is 6.7%, far below the 8.2% national average.  On a per capita basis that translates to nearly 20% fewer people out of work in the state.

A lot was at stake here and everyone knew it.  An all out effort to defeat Walker was made by the unions and the Democratic Party.  The campaign was vicious at times and turned downright dirty when desperate Democrats introduced an unsubstantiated rumor at the last minute that Walker had fathered a child out of wedlock.  Feelings of opponent distaste ran high.  Nevertheless, some 11% of self declared Democrats voted for the Republican.  Fair is fair.

Wisconsin is a blue state.  Some pundits now say it will be in play in November.  I don’t know.  But one thing is sure; the wind is blowing our way.

OUTLOOK – 2012 ELECTION

Just one month ago I wrote there is The Potential for a Landslide.  Since then the following events have occurred.

Artur Davis dropped his support for Obama and took the additional step of leaving the National Democratic Party.  Davis was an early and ardent supporter of Obama and gave a resounding speech in his behalf at the 2008 National Democratic Convention.  His defection is a highly significant one.

Another prominent black Democrat, Massachusetts Gov Deval Patrick came out in support of the work Romney did at Bain Capital.  Gov. Davis publicly criticized Obama for attacking Romney over his record at Bain.

Move On.org revealed that donations are not coming in as expected.  The financial aid going to Democratic candidates will be far less than in prior elections.

The National Coalition of Black Churches announced on May 21st that they are withdrawing their support for Obama’s re-election.

On May 30th Power Line blog reported that donations for Republican candidates are pouring in in record numbers.  Campaign spending may even exceed for Democrats which would be the first time in modern election history that that occurred.

Rasmussen announced the results of a poll showing that, for the first time in first time in five-and-a-half years, 50% of all likely voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on the economy.  And the economy is the number one issue in this election.

On June 1st.Bill Clinton registered disagreement with Obama’s campaign to convince the voters Romney’s business record at Bain Capital is reprehensible.  Clinton called Romney’s performance there “sterling”.

New unemployment figures were released.  The number rose significantly, back up to 8.2% and the stock market plunged – down 274.88 on the news.

Still, the Rasmussen favorability index hasn’t changed much.  It shows the two contenders in a very close race with no discernable recent trend.  Why is that?  Rasmussen polls the general public.  The disenchantment is among political insiders.  The average citizen who answers the phone when the pollster calls is not as up to date and well informed.  It’s the donors and politicians who are paying attention to the details who are backing away.  They sense a loser.

Nonetheless, 5 months is a lifetime in politics, anything can happen.  And that includes a Republican landslide.

EX BLACK CAUCUS MEMBER LEAVES THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

Artur Davis was an early and very strong supporter of Barack Obama in his run for the presidency.  He held the position of co-chairman of the campaign and served as a Congressman representing Alabama’s 7th District from 2003 to 2011.

LA Times reports:

Renouncing the party “is no light decision on my part,” he wrote. “Cutting ties with an Alabama Democratic Party that has weakened and lost faith with more and more Alabamians every year is one thing; leaving a national party that has been the home for my political values for two decades is quite another.”

But “wearing a Democratic label no longer matches what I know about my country and its possibilities,” he said.

Although he may not have articulated it, Mr. Davis has recognized what other Democrats have not.  This is not the party of Roosevelt, Truman or Kennedy; it’s something else.  Mr. Davis has not left the Party, the Party left him.  In his youth, the former Congressman believed wholeheartedly in the principles upheld by the Democratic Party.  He has held fast to those principles and that is why he sees the need to leave.

Barack Obama is head of the Democratic Party and his platform is indistinguishable from Soviet style Socialism.

CANDIDATE OBAMA IS GETTING HIS CHICKEN FRIED IN KENTUCKY

Barack Obama has captured 57.9% of the votes cast in the Kentucky Democratic primary. That may not seem so bad until you consider he is running against nobody and nobody won 42.1% of the votes. Of course the ballot doesn’t say “nobody”, that would be silly. It says “Uncommitted”. It is understood that uncommitted is nobody. Any fool knows that. The Party’s primary voters know that.

The man is having trouble in Arkansas as well. It looks like he has won it 42% TO 51%. At least in Arkansas Obama ran against somebody. Arkansas, Kentucky, Obama and Hillary, the four have a mutual history. During the 2008 Democratic primary campaign Clinton was doing better than Barack was in Kentucky. Obama said it’s because Hillary’s home state of Arkansas borders on Kentucky (which it does not) whereas my home state of Michigan does not” (which it does). Karma anybody?

Obama has lost support of the Catholic Church, much of the Jewish community, those white blue-collar workers not working for the government, and many of the unemployed youth. And now he is losing his own party’s elected officeholders. Not one single Democrat in the House or the Senate voted in favor of Obama’s budget. The prominent black mayor of Newark, New Jersey has been blunt in his criticism of the President’s attack on capitalism in his Bain Capital push on Romney.

Who does he have left? He still has the solid support of voters from the black community who vote brotherhood loyalty above all else, ACORN, welfare recipients, Bill Ayers, Rev Jeremiah Wright and a majority of the illegal aliens and dead people who vote. Such a motley group would not be enough but Obama also still has academia, the MSM, Hollywood and all of those people who always vote Democratic because Republicans are so mean and greedy.

You can judge a politician by the constituency he serves. My vote will be cast for a candidate who supports live citizens striving to be self sufficient. My vote will be cast for the candidate who serves the common man with common sense. My vote will be cast for the candidate who is proud to stand and say “I am an American”. As you can see, I cannfor Barack Obama.

SCHUMER ATTACKS FACEBOOK CO-FOUNDER. WANTS A BIGGER PIECE OF SAVERIN’S MONEY TO GO TO THE GOVERNMENT

Eduardo Saverin was born in Brazil and lives in Singapore which is his legal residence.  He applied for American citizenship and attended college in the United States where he met Mark Zuckerberg, and by some accounts was the prime techy in the structure of Facebook.

Saverin stands to get a big pot of money when Facebook finally becomes a public company and he will pay U.S. taxes on his gain when he sells the stock.  But all the tax that is legally due, and that’s about 600 million dollars, is not enough to satisfy the Democrats led by Chuck Schumer.  They plan to introduce a bill to double that.

It doesn’t end there. The Democrats also want to bar the man from  re-entering the U.S.  Way to go Democrats, an enterprising young man manages to create an additional 600 million dollars for the U.S. treasury and you want to pass a law preventing him or anyone else from coming back and doing it something like that again.  You are driving America from the land of opportunity to becoming the land to avoid for anyone with enterprising ingenuity. Yuk!

OBAMA IS FARING POORLY IN THE DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES

It is not news when an unopposed candidate wins an election.  However, it is news when a virtually unopposed incumbent President only wins state primaries by small margins against perennial crank contenders.  But it’s news that goes unreported. Many people don’t even know there are Democratic primaries this year.  Obama may actually lose in Arkansas.  Read more

Obama’s budget proposal was defeated 414 to zero in the house and 99 to zero in the Senate.  Not a single Democrat supported the President in his plan.  Even the New York Times reports these defeats, so the voters are aware of them.

The attempt to paint Republicans as engaging in a war against women is backfiring.  Romney is staying on target with his Debt clock.

The case is building for a possible resounding defeat.  The hurdle remains getting enough electoral votes to overcome the solidly Democratic states.

HIGH PRICED BULBS FROM HOLLAND AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME NO TULIPS

Who would announce a 10 million dollar prize for the development of an affordable American made 60 watt light bulb and then award the money to a foreign company that prices the affordable bulb at 50 dollars and doesn’t manufacture it in the United States?  There are only two possibilities, a fool or the U.S. government.

`          THE WINNER !

HERE THEY ARE, COME AND GET ‘EM, 50 BUCKS APIECE

The bulbs do last longer; the claim is 10 years in 8 hour daily use.  They wear out gradually and diminish in brightness as they age so you may want to replace them sooner.  The bulbs generate light in the spectrum referred to as warm which means not as white as an incandescent bulb.  That may be fine if you want to use 6o watters for soft romantic room lighting, but they can be a bit of a strain for reading.

Philips says it is not manufactured in the U.S. but it’s assembled in Wisconsin and some of the parts are made in California.  How an item like a simple light bulb can be manufactured in one country without being assembled there is not explained.  Perhaps it has to do with the bulb costing 50 dollars.

What’s next, a 5 thousand dollar affordable 20 inch lawnmower that doesn’t require gasoline, made in China but the wheels are put on in Idaho?  That’s my comment for today; stay well and don’t forget to flush twice.

ROMNEY’S COMMENCEMENT SPEECH TO LIBERTY UNIVERSITY GRADUATES

Commencement – Beginning – The Start – Coming Out – Commencement is much more than a ceremony; it’s the day when graduates leave the confined world of learning for the open and uncertain world of application.  A good commencement speech clarifies, motivates, explains, congratulates and warns.  An excellent commencement speech gives the graduating class a sense of culture to bolster them when the going gets tough, and there will be times that it surely will.

Romney gave an excellent commencement speech when he addressed Liberty University’s Graduating Class of 2012 with these words:

“You enter a world with civilizations and economies that are far from equal.  Harvard historian David Landes devoted his lifelong study to understanding why some civilizations rise, and why others falter.  His conclusion:  Culture makes all the difference.  Not natural resources, not geography, but what people believe and value.  Central to America’s rise to global leadership is our Judeo-Christian tradition, with its vision of the goodness and possibilities of every life.

The American culture promotes personal responsibility, the dignity of work, the value of education, the merit of service, devotion to a purpose greater than self, and, at the foundation, the pre-eminence of the family.

The power of these values is evidenced by a Brookings Institution study that Senator Rick Santorum brought to my attention.  For those who graduate from high school, get a full-time job, and marry before they have their first child, the probability that they will be poor is 2%.  But, if those things are absent, 76% will be poor.  Culture matters.

As fundamental as these principles are, they may become topics of democratic debate.  So it is today with the enduring institution of marriage.  Marriage is a relationship between one man and one woman.”

It’s not Reaganesque in style, but it’s Reaganesque in essential substance.  Here is more.

“Moral certainty, clear standards, and a commitment to spiritual ideals will set you apart in a world that searches for meaning.

[Y]our values will not always be the object of public admiration.  In fact, the more you live by your beliefs, the more you will endure the censure of the world.  Christianity is not the faith of the complacent, the comfortable or of the timid.  It demands and creates heroic souls like Wesley, Wilberforce, Bonhoeffer, John Paul the Second, and Billy Graham.  Each showed, in their own way, the relentless and powerful influence of the message of Jesus Christ.  May that be your guide.”

This man Romney is looking better every day.

HOW ABOUT $179,750 PER HOUR

No, that’s not a job offer.  It’s the cost of operating the airplane known as Air Force One according to the Pentagon.

Like the White House, it belongs to you and me.  We gladly pay the expenses and give the sitting President to privilege of using them.  When we elect another president we expect the departing President to leave them behind.  Air Force One is not Barack Obama’s private jet.  Would someone please tell CBS.

IT'S NOT HIS, IT'S OURS

The President used our plane to go coast to coast across the country to raise some money for himself.  Reporting on the trip to George Clooney’s house (that’s where the money was) CBS said “The star of the evening, the president, arrived at LAX in his private jet, Air Force One.”  Now CBS, you know the man you call president with a small p doesn’t believe in private jets.  What’s LAX is your reporting , I believe.
