GE MAKES THE SWITCH – FROM OBAMA TO ROMNEY

General Electric president Jeffry Immelt has privately switched his support from Barack Obama to Mitt Romney.  According to Charles Gasperino writing for the New York Post, Immelt, a Republican, thought he could moderate Obama’s anti-business views but has become very disenchanted with the President. A GE spokesman said the idea is ludicrous.  Evidence would say otherwise.

In Immelt’s annual letter to stockholders he wrote:

“We live in a tough era in which the public discourse, in general, is negative . . . American companies, particularly big companies, are vilified,” when “we need to work together to find a better way.”

GE executives contributed more than 300% more to Obama than to McCain in the 2008 campaign.  This time around those GE executives have contributed twice as much to Romney than they have to Obama.

There are things about manufacturing that the guy on the production line knows better than the president of the company.  There are things a well informed voter knows about a presidential candidate that a man who shakes hands with him does not.  If Jeffrey Immelt is disappointed it’s because he was too busy managing GE to see what was obvious from the start to Joe the Plumber.

If Gasperino is correct, it bodes well for the 2012 election.  For if GE, of all companies, has had a change of heart, certainly others have as well.

SHOWDOWN by DAVID CORN

OBAMA'S EXECUTIVE JET

David Corn is the Washington Bureau Chief for the publication Mother Jones and author of the book The Lies of George W. Bush: Mastering the Politics of Deception.  David Corn is no friend of the Right.  His latest book is Showdown: The Inside Story of How Obama Fought Back Against Boehner, Cantor, and the Tea Party  is to be released tomorrow.

The book covers a short but very interesting period in the presidency of Barack Obama, from the 2010 election until the beginning of this year.  The headline item is that Obama blamed Fox News for the 2010 results because, he says, Fox branded him as a Muslim 24/7 day and night.  If he believes that, and there is no reason to think that he doesn’t, the man is clueless.

Obama castigated corporate leaders ““I saved these guys when the economy was falling off a cliff,” Obama said, according to Corn. “Now I get nothing but their venom.”  Obama has said he doesn’t watch cable news programs like Fox.  Apparently he doesn’t watch CSPAN either.  And if he thinks the venom is coming from the corporate executives, he must not be listening to his own speeches either.

David Corn writes that the day after the 2010 elections, Obama told his confidants that he would,

“get a tax deal done, extend unemployment benefits, ratify the new START treaty, repeal Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and pass the DREAM Act and a children’s nutrition bill in the following two months. David Axelrod told Corn he remembered, “We all looked at each other quizzically, ‘What does he see that we don’t?’”

What Obama did not explain is that what he could not get through the Congress he would accomplish with regulatory change or an Executive Order.

YOU CAN BE ACQUITTED OF RAPE IF YOU FORCE THE VICTIM TO MARRY YOU

Not in America of course, in Morocco and it only applies if you rape a minor.  Otherwise the rapist may be subject to punishment.  Amina Filali was raped when she was 15 years old.

Article 475 of the Moroccan penal code allows for the “kidnapper” of a minor to marry his victim to escape prosecution, and it has been used to justify a traditional practice of making a rapist marry his victim to preserve the honor of the woman’s family.

“Amina, 16, was triply violated, by her rapist, by tradition and by Article 475 of the Moroccan law,” tweeted activist Abadila Maaelaynine

Amina is dead.  She committed suicide by taking rat poison.  Considering the circumstances it is understandable.  As a female and a minor she had no more rights under Moroccan law than a spider on a wall.  As a rape victim she was the equivalent of a criminal and an utter disgrace to her family.

Westerners who argue that diversity is a virtue in its own right need to be more discerning.  Some cultures are better than others and anyone who denies that does so at their peril.  Just ask the citizens of Malmo, Sweden.  Diversity is not a virtue, it’s just a difference.

Diversity has added a beautiful dimension to the American culture.  From Cellist Yo Yo Ma on the cello to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the court we have benefitted from the melding of races and colors into our culture.  And let’s not forget, America’s favorite food is pizza.  But to blindly seek diversity for diversity’s sake as our institutions of higher learning and elites of the land do is simply stupid, stupid.

ROMNEY 48% – OBAMA 43%

Chris and Ed, those friendly chaps over at MSNBC were a bit less vitriolic this week.  It’s because they have turned giddy, giddy with delight over the sense that the Republicans no longer have a ghost of a chance in November.

The Republican candidates have destroyed each other.  Romney will be the nominee and the Tea Party folks will never vote for him because they think he is a Liberal.  There are serious issues that need attention, the nation is deep in debt, people are out of work and need help but all the Republicans want to talk about is how to stop people from having sex.  Rush Limbaugh, the primary spokesman for the Republican Party, delivered the decisive blow with his disgusting remarks about a female college student.  No self respecting woman, regardless of Party will ever vote Republican after that.

Well now, Chris and Ed, you still don’t get it, it seems.  Still living in that bubble I guess.  I would love to burst your bubble but I can’t.  I tried.  It’s too thick.  Funny thing about that bubble, those of us on the outside can see in, those of us who take the trouble to do so at least. We see what you stand for and we don’t like it.  But you never seem to understand what just what it is we stand for and then you object to it anyhow.  I think you need to get your bubble fixed.

The Tea Party didn’t rise up to promote conservatism.  Its members were too busy enjoying life and family (including sex) to spend time doing that.  The Tea Party rose up to save the country from a complete transformation to the Left.  The Tea Party is what happens when a trend goes too far for too long and needs to be stopped.  The vote will not be for a candidate, though one may wish it could be.  Whoever the nominee may be will not change that.  The vote isn’t even against Barack Obama, though I’m sure you won’t understand that.  The vote will be against the arrival of a collective state and a soft tyranny.  And it’s a vote against bankruptcy as well.  Obama is less a culprit than a culmination.

Rush Limbaugh is Rush Limbaugh; he is unique; he is solitary.  He is not a spokesman for the Republican Party.  Republicans are no more likely to vote Democratic because of some disgusting remark Limbaugh makes and apologizes for than are Democrats likely to vote Republican because of some even more disgusting remarks that Bill Maher makes and refuses to apologize for.

Bye the way, Romney is leading Obama 48 to 43 according to a current Rasmussen poll.  Santorum is not doing so well but he is ahead of Obama.

MAY WE HAVE PERMISSION TO DEFEND OURSELVES – PLEASE?

Leon Panetta, our Secretary of Defense insists we need approval from a consortium of foreign nations or we have no legal basis for military action.  Me thinks poor Leon is trapped between supporting his boss and common sense.

A poll taken by Arianna Huffington’s Pollster.com found 60% of U.S. Army officers identify themselves as Republicans, only 18% as Democrats.  There is no mystery about that.

FOLKS FAINT AT MY MEETINGS ALL THE TIME,

and he says it without a smile. It’s the Messiah complex.

OBAMA PRAISES THE CHEVROLET VOLT AND REVEALS HE WILL NOT SEEK A THIRD TERM

The cat is out of the bag, so to speak.  President in Chief, B. H. Obama let this remark slip out in a speech to the United Auto Workers union last week.  He vowed to buy a Volt “five years from now, when I’m not president anymore.”  So much for the alarmist’s President-for-life theory.

What occasioned the remark was the then imminent shutting down of the production line for the Chevy VOLT and the ensuing layoff of 1,300 workers by Government Motors.  The President wanted to assure the union workers of his continued support for the car.  The VOLT has been an utter failure in the market place.  Not since Ford introduced the Edsel has a car been such a flop.  Ford’s mistake was to put a toilet seat on the front of the car and then give the car a name like Edsel.  The failure didn’t cost taxpayers a red cent.  The company acknowledged they had launched a loser and discontinued the model.  That decision was just common sense born out of necessity.

GM, however, is only a quasi-private sector company that remains subject to the demands of Obama and his administration.  While a private sector company must manage sensibly to avoid the bankruptcy courts and assure its ultimate survival, no such discipline exists with the government.  The politicians do not pay for their failures; we do.

If the batteries are still good, and he is careful with his speed, Barack will be able to drive electrically up to 40 miles on just one battery charge.  All I can say to that is, “Wow!”  After only 8-10 hours of recharging at home, he can drive on the batteries for another 40 miles, again “Wow!”  Of course, in 5 to 8 years it will be time to replace the batteries.  At a cost of about $15,000 before adjusting for inflation, this effectively sets the lifespan of the car.

Now here’s one for the… you-can’t-make-this-stuff-up… department.  The VOLT is sold in Europe under the name Volt/Ampera.  There are some mighty fine automobiles built in Europe and every year one outstanding example is chosen to be honored as Car of the Year at the Geneva Auto Convention.  This year they picked the VOLT.

The auto show, in its review of the vehicle, called the Volt/Ampera a “mature product, after years of development and perfectioning by General Motors, and the first example of an electric vehicle with extended range.”

Europeans are not normally that dense when it comes to engineering.  It must be racism.  It’s Obama’s car.  Ridiculous of course.  But so is the car.

THE DEVIL YOU KNOW

Far better to go with the devil you know than with the devil you don’t.  Vladimir Putin is the devil we know.  He is a known entity, a worthy adversary and even somewhat predictable.  America should cheer his victory; it could have been much worse.  The second place candidate, Communist Party leader Gennady Zyuganov, is a devoted follower of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.  He is a man of great personal ambition and a man who, to this day, holds Lenin and Stalin in great esteem as his heroes.

Joseph Stalin is credited with the murder of 20,000,000 Russian people.  He left the living so impoverished they had to be fenced in to prevent them from leaving their homeland.  Putin rightly feared that if his opponent Zyuganov ever came to power he would emulate the policies and methods of his heroes with the same horrible results.  Vladimir Putin didn’t cry for joy because he won.  KGB directors aren’t given to that.  He cried tears of relief because Zyuganov lost, tears on behalf of the Russian people.

Make no mistake; Putin is no friend of America.  But as enemies go, he should be the enemy of choice.

ANDREW BREITBART – IN MEMORIUM

1969 - 2012

“I always wondered what it would be like to enter the public realm to fight for what I believe in. I’ve lost friends, perhaps dozens. But I’ve gained hundreds, thousands—who knows?—of allies. At the end of the day, I can look at myself in the mirror, and I sleep very well at night.”   Andrew Breitbart

A hero is someone who is willing to sacrifice something that is important to them, like friends, in order to do what is right.  Andrew Breitbart was a hero and he enjoyed every minute of it.  He died unexpectedly early this morning of natural causes.  He will be sorely missed by many.

THE STACHE ACT, A TAX BREAK FOR THE MISTACHIOED

Keep a bushy upper lip and you may qualify for a $250 annual tax deduction for expenses incurred in the nurturing and caring for your hirsute growth, provided that is, if a recently introduced Bill passes into law.  The Bill was submitted to the House Ways and Means Committee for judicial review, the normal process for proposed changes in tax law.  Unbelievable?  It’s a fact.  Here is the story as reported by David Halper for the Weekly Standard.

The first thought any good capitalist would have would be to look for a manufacturer of mustache mugs and buy some of their stock.  But don’t expect the industry to be subsidized.  Mustaches are never green and the bill was introduced by a Republican, Rep. Roscoe Bartlett of Maryland.  There are risks however; the feminist movement is sure to bring action.  Married women filing jointly will still benefit of course, but others would need to take hormone shots in order to qualify.  There is little question but that the Supreme Court would find The Stache Act to be discriminatory, somewhat like abortion laws that only apply to women.

Someone in Washington or perhaps Maryland must have been having some fun at the expense of the Honorable Roscoe.  I hope the newspapers in Europe don’t catch this one.  It could cause them to think our lawmakers are foolish.
