ABOUT AL GORE

Tipper and Al’s net worth grew from an estimated one million in the year 2000 to an estimated one hundred million 10 years later according to the Washington Examiner.

Al Gore has parlayed politics and his zeal for talking about global warming into an Academy Award, a Grammy and the Noble Peace Prize in 2007. He is a co-founder of Current TV, brings in six figures for speaking gigs, is a member of the Board of Directors at Apple, Inc. and serves as a senior adviser to Google.

From 1 to 100 in 10 years and still going, six figures for a global warming speech, and no jail time – makes Bernie Madoff look like a piker.

Mr. Gore has a habit of barring the press from his speeches. Google “Gore bars press” and “Gore limits press” for more instances of avoidance of press coverage. He also does not take questions or limits questions to 3 or 4 chosen from pre-submitted cards. On at least one occasion he required the press to leave the room after the first 5 minutes of his talk.

He was very vocal when Exxon Mobil’s ship ran aground in Alaska. He has been uncharacteristically silent on the BP disaster. Rumors are rife as to the reason. It does beg the question, why, when Mr. Gore has stood for banning offshore drilling and said: “For me, this issue is not only an economic issue and a health issue, it is also a moral issue,” For some reason the same morals do not seem to extend to the shorelines of our Gulf states.

If you were to smooth the red temperature line on the chart by drawing a regression (best fit) line back to 1998 the chart would look like an X, with CO2 rising and temperatures declining. Gore clings to the claim temperature are rising and CO2 is the cause. He is wrong on both counts.

OBAMA ADMINISTRATION FALSIFIES DRILLING ENGINEERS REPORT

Ken Arnold, speaking for the seven experts from The National Academy of Engineering, said the Obama administration changed their report to read support for a drilling moratorium when the actual recommendation was just the opposite.

Ken Salazar altered the signed report to convey the exact opposite advice than given. The report was then presented to the public as justification for a drilling moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico. The seven experts never saw the revised report. In a civil court the charges would be fraud, forgery and perhaps libel. But the sad fact is that politicians are de facto beyond the law.

The BP well was in the process of being shut down. This is a far more critical process than continued drilling. There is worldwide demand for rigs. They will not sit idle.

[The engineers report] also said that because the floating rigs are scarce and in high demand worldwide, they will not simply sit in the Gulf idle for six months. The rigs will go to the North Sea and West Africa, possibly preventing the U.S. from being able to resume drilling for years.

They also said the best and most advanced rigs will be the first to go, leaving the U.S. with the older and potentially less safe rights operating in the nation’s coastal waters.

And we thought Jimmy Carter was the worst President this nation ever had.

WHY OBAMA HAS FALLEN FROM GRACE

An alien in the White House

Dorothy Rabinowitz (WSJ) has written an insightful analysis explaining why Obama has fallen from grace by so many of his one time admirers. Her thesis is Obama is apart from America; he is among us but not of us. He is an alien in the White House.

There should have been nothing puzzling about [Obama] to anyone who has paid even modest critical attention to Mr. Obama’s pronouncements. For it was clear from the first that this president—single-minded, ever-visible, confident in his program for a reformed America saved from darkness by his arrival—was wanting in certain qualities citizens have until now taken for granted in their presidents. Namely, a tone and presence that said: This is the Americans’ leader, a man of them, for them, the nation’s voice and champion.

[Obama lacks those qualities expected in a President], identification with the nation and to all that binds its people together in pride and allegiance. These are feelings held deep in American hearts, unvoiced mostly, but unmistakably there and not only on the Fourth of July.

A great part of America now understands that this president’s sense of identification lies elsewhere, and is in profound ways unlike theirs. He is hard put to sound convincingly like the leader of the nation, because he is, at heart and by instinct, the voice mainly of his ideological class. He is the alien in the White House.

Ms. Rabinowitz continues,

One of his first reforms was to rid the White House of the bust of Winston Churchill—a gift from Tony Blair—by packing it back off to 10 Downing Street. A cloudlet of mystery has surrounded the subject ever since, but the central fact stands clear. The new administration had apparently found no place in our national house of many rooms for the British leader who lives on so vividly in the American mind. Churchill, face of our shared wartime struggle, dauntless rallier of his nation who continues, so remarkably, to speak to ours. For a president to whom such associations are alien, ridding the White House of Churchill would, of course, have raised no second thoughts.

OBAMA’S WAR II

John Bolton agrees with Random Thots.

In Obama’s War? we argued that America has been a catalyst for good. Standing firm with our friends we presented a formidable front to anyone who might challenge any free nation among us. Obama is dismantling these alliances and breaking a solidarity that has been crucial for deterrence against aggression by our adversaries upon our allies.

Power Line reports on Bolton’s comments,

Bolton concludes that the harm caused by American weakness on the Gaza blockade issue will reach far beyond the Middle East: “America’s friends and allies increasingly realize that President Obama won’t stand with them in controversial circumstances.” Bolton suggests that “those closest to us will calibrate their own interests more carefully to hedge against US weakness, step by step distancing themselves from us.” I would add only that those most opposed to us have taken the measure of Obama’s weakness and are taking advantage of it in ways that bring a major conflagration ever closer.

Reagan made sure we carried a big stick and peace prevailed. Obama is whittling the stick into a symbol of submission. The United States has been the cop on the beat that caused the felon to walk on by. But the cop has been recalled from duty and Iran is not the only felon to notice it.

It could take a lifetime to reverse the damage this President is doing.

“Only the News We See Fit to Print”

THE GRAY LADY

The New York Times’s masthead logo, “All the News That’s Fit to Print” first appeared on the paper in 1896. It is time that logo was removed.

The “Helen Thomas -Jews go home” affair remained totally unreported by the Times for four days. The idea that the event was not instant news is unthinkable. Then could it be that the paper, for some reason considered it unfit to print? How can that be that possible for editors who deemed the reporting of classified anti-terrorism information as fit to print with coverage in depth. Slavish dedication to ideology is the answer, dedication to a cause to the point of self destruction if need be.

When the NYT was unable to ignore it any longer the headline was

“Reporter Retires After Words About Israel”

Their height of criticism for her anti-semitic remark was

Ms. Thomas’s tone became more opinionated in recent years after she moved from being a news reporter to being a columnist once she joined Hearst.

This is the paper that hired Jayson Bair and made him a star because he was politically correct. This is the paper that was forced to fire him when the peoples press exposed the young black journalist as a total fraud. This is the paper whose Pulitzer Prize winning Moscow bureau chief, Walter Duranty, wrote one glowing article after another declaring the virtues of Joseph Stalin and the success of Socialism in Russia. This is the paper many people the world over, trust more than any other. This is the paper they rely on for all the news they need to know.

Iran Revolutionary Guards Ready to Escort Gaza Ships – Reuters

In chemistry, a catalyst is an element that has a profound effect on its surroundings simply by its presence. The world has lost a catalyst and the rogue regimes know it. Since the founding of the nation, Israel has been able to rely on the staunch support of the United States. Any nation that would provoke war with Israel could expect the U.S to bring to bear whatever necessary to save Israel from extinction. Just our presence at Israel’s’ side, nothing more, had a profound effect on how far a nation like Iran would go in their quest to drive Jews out of the Mid-East.

However, Obama has signaled the withdrawal of full commitment to Israel. Iran is seizing the moment by planning a military confrontation at sea. The significance of the catalytic influence for peace that America has had on the world cannot be overestimated, yet it goes widely unrecognized. In fact, by his words and deeds one could presume that Obama believes quite the contrary and is striving to create a better world by diminishing America’s place within it.

Ayatollah Ali Khomeini made the announcement that Iran is prepared to send their elite Revolutionary Guards Naval Unit to confront the Israeli blockade. That it came from Khomeini, not Ahmadinejad, strengthens the threat by lessening the chances if it being a bluff. The potential for war is real.

When dissidents opposed the Iranian election claiming it was rigged, Obama stood with the Iranian government rather than with the more pro-Western dissidents, stressing the sovereign rights of what Obama called the “Islamic Republic of Iran”. If Obama repeats that stance and refers to the sovereign rights of the Republic of Iran, Islamic or not, to protect ships flying the Iranian flag, his stance may be taken by Khomeini as a sign it is safe to proceed. Please note that Khomeini has already announced the flotilla will sail under the flag of Iran, a change from the practice to date.

There are a couple of big “ifs” here, but should war break out Obama will have blood on his hands.

MEDICARE MESSAGE FROM KATHLEEN SEBELIUS

Medicare and the New Health Law is the title of a glossy full color bulletin written by Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health & Human Services. The leaflet is currently in the mail to a broad list of recipients across the nation. It is an expensive mailing, no doubt. It is little more than a propaganda piece that reads like an Obama speech with all of the same talking points.

Within the bulletin’s four pages Sebelius manages to cast aspersions on the insurance industry 5 times. For instance, in the opening paragraph we read:

It will also ensure accountability throughout the health care system so that you, your family, and your doctor – not insurance companies – have greater control over your care.  (emphasis is in the original).

The same arguments we heard from Obama when he was campaigning for passage of the bill are repeated in the bulletin: reduction of fraud, better quality care for more people at less cost, and new services to assure people “will no longer be forced into poverty”.

There is need for a letter to explain the provisions of the new law but this is not it.

The Age of Obama

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is the fastest growing labor union in North America and second in size only to the teachers National Educational Association (NEA). While unions like the AFL sit across the table from private industry employers the SEIU sits across the table from the US Government. When Democrats are in power there is but one side to the table.

On May 16, the SEIU and the National Peoples Action (NPA) group joined hands to organize and transport 14 busloads of people from Washington DC to the Maryland home of Greg Baer, an executive in the employ of Bank of America.

Some 500 in number, they trampled his lawn and blocked the doorway to his home chanting “greed”. Mr Baer’s 14 year old son, home alone, was frightened they might break in. He locked himself in the bathroom in fear and called his dad.

The invaders had no permit to demonstrate. There were no police to preserve order. There was no regular press to record the event. That was all according to plan. But there was one thing the organizers did not count on: Fortune Magazine’s Nina Easton happened to live next door. She photographed and reported the event.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION IN ACTION

Ms. Easton asked SEIU spokesman Stephen Lerner to comment. His chilling response was “People in powerful corporations seem to think they can insulate themselves from the damage they are doing,” By that statement he was claiming a right to organize an army to harass and intimidate any business man he deemed to be “damaging”.

The Washington DC police had assisted with an escort and safe passage for the demonstrators to the limit of their jurisdiction. They preserved the clandestine nature of the operation by omitting any notification to Maryland police of the approaching 14 bus parade. No local police were present to escort Mr. Baer through the insult hurling crowd on his property as he sought to reach his son, or to free his property from the aggressors.

Personal and sometimes violent intimidation were once familiar tactics used by labor unions in America. These same sort of tactics for gaining and holding power are among the means urged by Saul Alinsky in Rules for Radicals. Freedom from such tyranny is an inalienable human right. The first role of government is to protect its citizens against attack from within or from without. However, the work of our President was to teach community organizations like the Chicago based NPA on how to gain power by employing such tactics. “Houston – We have a problem”.

Random Thots will have more to say on this issue in future posts. When a union turns thuggish at the same time that it heads the most frequent visitor list at the White House there is more to it than one mangle lawn and one frightened young boy.

BARACK ON THE MEDIA

As noted in a previous post, President Obama touched obliquely on racism in his recent commencement speech at Hampton University. He also used the occasion to express his dismay for the “breathtaking change” taking place in today’s media.

“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank all that high on the truth meter”

So now we know, Obama has been reading the Huffington Post. Then he spoke another truth when he said,

“Some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction,”

There can be no question about this one. We covered a prime example in Spits and Slurs, Spins and Lies. We said then a lie goes around the world before the truth has had a chance to get its pants on. A couple of months have passed and the truth is still naked. Despite no evidence has come forth to support the claim and there being an abundance of evidence to refute it, the lie will go down in history books as truth.
