CATCH AND RELEASE, OBAMA’S NEW IMMIGRATION POLICY

Prior to Barack Obama, presidents urged Congress to make laws.  Obama doesn’t bother.  He cuts out the middle man with an executive order.  The orders always come on a Friday after the White House newsroom has largely been vacated for the weekend.  Besides, nobody reads the Saturday paper in any event.  The Constitution?  Oh that was written years ago, it’s out of date.

In a move that might be called the campaigns first October surprise, the presumptive Democratic candidate has granted amnesty to youthful immigrants.  Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano made the announcement Friday morning; the new policy will not grant citizenship to children who came to the United States as illegal immigrants, but will remove the threat of deportation and grant them the right to work in the United States.

THE BARACK OBAMA DEFENSIVE OFFENSIVE

Helene Cooper, White House correspondent for the New York Times refers to Obama’s campaign strategy as the Obama Defensive Offensive.  Do I sense a bit of fed-up attitude coming from yet another liberal quarter?  Ms. Cooper, who is black, doesn’t disagree with the president’s assertion that the Republicans are at fault but she is worried that “runs the danger of making Mr. Obama come across as a crybaby, not to mention opening him up to ridicule from the right.”  The Times’ correspondent is right about one thing.  You can’t win a war by playing defense.

The new tack for the president’s water carriers is “it’s the money”.  Democrats overall have been outdoing Republicans in raising campaign funds for years.  To them, that’s the norm.  Obama raised $745M in 2008, more than twice as much as John McCain.  For some reason Obama’s supporters didn’t say ‘it was the money’ then.

The power of the race card is getting thin.  The blindest grass roots Democrats may not admit it but they can now see the President’s faults.  His opulent life style on the taxpayer’s dollar is one thing that rubs Americans the wrong way.  Another is that he was a no-show in Wisconsin which was the biggest event since passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare.

One thing he does having going for him is the animosity the Democrats have built up by vilification of Republicans.  The feeling is that it’s better to vote for a disappointing candidate than for the devil.  He was a good community organizer

NORTH DAKOTA MULLS ELIMINATION OF PRIVATE PROPERTY TAX

A man’s home is his castle, right?  Not exactly.  Once the mortgage is paid a man has the comfort of knowing it’s his for life, right?  Not exactly.  The government cannot take a man’s homestead away except as necessary to build a highway, a bridge or some other project for the benefit of all, certainly not to turn it over to another private party, right?  Not exactly.

A real King could do what he liked in his castle.  A man today can do only what the government permits.  The permission process can be long, costly and still end up in being denied.  Your mother may have to go to the nursing home if the town won’t allow the changes needed to accommodate her living with you.

You can pay off the mortgage for life.  The bank will never come back and say “We decided we want some more money from you.  We are running a little short.”  But the government will.  It’s called property tax.  You can never pay it off and you can never stop the collector from deciding to take a little more if they are running short.

You have heard of the law of eminent domain.  Let’s go to the dictionary.  Eminent – prominent, of higher standing.  Domain – a territory over which rule or control is exercised.  The government has final rights to your castle, not you.  The US Supreme court in the Kelo decision allowed the taking of a home from a taxpayer in Connecticut enabling a developer to bulldoze the house and build something that would yield higher property tax revenue.

You worked all your life, you scraped and you saved, you did everything right.  You achieved the dream, the home is yours.  Now it is the autumn of your life.  You have earned the comfort of knowing that whatever happens, your home is yours for life.  Not exactly.  If misfortune strikes and you can’t pay the rent they call property tax, it’s bye, bye castle.

Oh, I know, many municipalities have laws and practices that allow you to stay in your own home until you die.  But there is something disquieting about the fact that you are living at the mercy of a government in what has become their home by default.

The people of North Dakota have decided to do something about it.

“I would like to be able to know that my home, no matter what happens to my income or my life, is not going to be taken away from me because I can’t pay a tax,” said Susan Beehler, one in a group of North Dakotans who have pressed for an amendment to the state’s Constitution to end the property tax. They argue that the tax is unpredictable, inconsistent, counter to the concept of property ownership.

The proposition comes to a vote on Tuesday.  It isn’t practical enough to pass, but it’s a nice idea.

VENEZUELA TURNING RIGHT?

A young 39 year old Henrique Capriles has the pole position in a race to replace the cancer stricken Hugo Chavez in Venezuela. If elected it would be a sharp turn to the Right for that country.  Of course there was no other direction in which to turn from where Hugo Chavez stood. Despots like Chavez often come to power by creating the perception of an enemy to the masses then present themselves as their best and only protector.  If the enemy is imaginary, all the better because no one else will be fighting against it on behalf of th

If Capriles does replace Chavez, Cindy Sheehan will have to pay for her own airfare if she wants to visit that South American country again.  Folks like Sean Penn and Danny Glover will need to find another country in which to do their Jane Fonda thing.  I suggest they try North Korea.

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

Yesterday I guess I was feeling a little too smug about having my very own eierschallensollbruchstellenverursacher.  One reader suggested how I could use it and he didn’t even know what it is for.

This is my eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher.  Very few people have anything known by a word as long as that.  Owning it makes me feel very superior.  Anyone can have a fork or even a five letter item like a spoon, but only special people have an eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher.  Having it helps me to separate the upper crust from the mass below and I find that to be quite a satisfying way to start the day.

I realize that many people among the proletariat are unaware of this upper crust tool.  A person in my position must look down and forgive them for they know not what it is.  Tomorrow I will bring them out of their darkness and explain how it’s used.

THE SAD STATE OF MSNBC

This composite video of Walker night on MSNBC reminded me of Saddam Hussein’s Minister of Public Affairs declaring victory while you could see enemy tanks rolling into the city over his shoulder.  The final tally was 53 to 46 in favor of Gov. Scott Walker.  The margins were even wider than that at the time Ed Schulz was calling it close.

The Democrat’s suffered a resounding defeat in this nationally significant election in one of their own solidly blue states.  Does Larry O’Donnell truly believe “the really big winner is President Obama”?  Gov. Walker “may be indicted”, indicted for what, winning an election?

It is unimaginable what the reaction will be at MSNBC on November 6 if Obama is losing badly from start to finish as the Democrats were here.

WALKER WINS WISCONSIN, WHAT DOES IT MEAN

People vote their pocketbook and their deepest convictions.  Economics, abortion, gun rights and distaste for the opposing party are the four factors, broadly defined, that figure prominently in any election.  The Walker recall attempt only involved two, economics and opponent distaste.  Economics was the determining factor.

When campaigning for office in 2009, Scott Walker pledged to bring down the cost of state government and to deliver on the economy.  He did both.  Imagine that, a politician who keeps his promises.  It didn’t go unnoticed.  Wisconsin’s unionized government workers were among the very highest paid in any state and so far above their private sector equivalents that a sense of unfairness prevailed among the voters.  Why should I subsidize a government worker with my tax dollars when he or she already makes more than I do for the same work?

Unemployment in Wisconsin is 6.7%, far below the 8.2% national average.  On a per capita basis that translates to nearly 20% fewer people out of work in the state.

A lot was at stake here and everyone knew it.  An all out effort to defeat Walker was made by the unions and the Democratic Party.  The campaign was vicious at times and turned downright dirty when desperate Democrats introduced an unsubstantiated rumor at the last minute that Walker had fathered a child out of wedlock.  Feelings of opponent distaste ran high.  Nevertheless, some 11% of self declared Democrats voted for the Republican.  Fair is fair.

Wisconsin is a blue state.  Some pundits now say it will be in play in November.  I don’t know.  But one thing is sure; the wind is blowing our way.

BARACK OBAMA AND FRANCE, LIKE TWO BULLIES IN A SANDBOX

You hit me first!!  No I didn’t.  YOU hit ME first!!

While Obama blames today’s American unemployment on France and Europe, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius threw it back at Barack Obama saying the threat of the European debt crisis originated in the United States.  “Lehman Brothers was not a European bank” Fabius said.

The PIGS, Portugal, Ireland, Greece and Spain not to mention France and Great Britain have been spending at unsustainable rates ever since they recovered from World War II and now it’s our fault that they ran out of money.  Here at home, our own government set up a house-of-cards in the mortgage market that inevitability had to fail like a Ponzi scheme. When it did, we chose a socialist to solve the problem and he blames France.

The Brits have Monty Python; we have Washington.
