RANDOM OBSERVATIONS, June 21, 2010

The  Mohegan Sun is a very profitable casino in Connecticut. So profitable that every member of the Mohegan tribe is given about $30,000 each year as a share of the profits just for being a Mohegan Indian. The Obama Administration gave them an extra 54 million dollars to distribute this year. It was called “Stimulus Money”. It looks more like reparations to me.

Here is something not observed so much anymore –  Obama bumper stickers.

The New York Times had an op-ed article the other day headlined ”The Glory is Gone”. This guy is dropping so fast even Rasmussen cannot keep up with the polls.

Eleven ships of our Navy passed through the Suez Canal. Fill up your car now because if things start to pop, gasoline will cost more than whiskey.

Drudge refered to Joran as “Van der Slut”. It’s not the first time sluts have been insulted.

KENYA! THAT’S IT!

Yesterday I found myself discussing the usual things like Einstein’s theory of relativity and the price of cheese on the moon with a European friend of mine. He is a man of Liberal persuasion and I value his friendship which is why we spoke of science and cheese rather than topics political. Nevertheless, the subject of Winston Churchill came up and our discussion turned political nonetheless.

“I think it was an insult for the White House to return the bust of Churchill to Great Britain” I said. “No! Did they do that?” he replied. My friend wanted to know more so I recounted the many ways in which Obama has shown disdain for the people of Great Britain. Astonished to hear it, “But why? Why?” he cried. Before I could say anything he answered his own question, “KENYA! That’s it!”, he said.

My friend is fluent in 5 languages and has lived in many lands including a few years in Africa. He knows whereof he speaks. In his teens Obama travelled to Kenya in search of his roots. Kenya was colonized as Rhodesia by the British and deep seated hatred of Britain remains among Kenyans to this day.

OBAMA’S FATHER’S DAY PROCLAMATION

Are these not strange words to put in a Father’s Day proclamation?

When fathers are not present, their children and families cope with an absence government cannot fill.

Did anyone think government could fill the role of a loving and caring father?
And this one, which had no context whatever.

Nurturing families come in many forms, and children may be raised by a father and mother, a single father, two fathers, a step father, a grandfather, or caring guardian.

One is given to wonder why Obama omitted grandmothers, foster homes, hired nannies and lesbian couples as possibilities.

LAST WEEK

Week ending June 18

Monday
Larry King’s retirement is announced

His replacement is to be one Piers Morgan who was fired by a British newspaper 6 years ago for journalistic fraud,

Obama’s speeches change to hopeless
The President’s oil spill was speech scorned by everyone except Fidel Castro who had no comment.

Tuesday
European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso says some countries in southern Europe could fall victim to military coups as governments run out of money and public services collapse.
Random Thots, often wrong but never timid, says – not yet. Europe will muddle through this one, return to its traditional Socialism for a time. The apocalypse will be postponed but not canceled.

Wednesday
Rasmussen poll has Obama continuing to sink
Approval drops to 42%
Index spread widens to -20%

Louisiana poll shows residents believe Bush handled Katrina better than Obama is handling the spill.
Those billboards picturing Bush asking “Miss me yet?” may be onto something.

Thursday
Hillary Clinton, speaking for the Obama Administration, says the Federal government will be suing the State of Arizona over immigration law.
The Arizona issue is pitting state against state as well as Washington against Arizona. It is of great concern because “A house divided cannot stand”.

Friday
President’s approval index sinks again, to minus 21
That is an extraordinary decline, in less than 18 months from 30% positive to 21% negative.

DEAD PEOPLE DON’T VOTE

BENNEFITS CURTAILED FOR RESIDENTS
AP headline Obama to agencies: Don’t pay dead people

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration is setting up a “do not pay” list in hopes of stopping government checks sent to those who shouldn’t get them, such as contractors who are in jail — and even dead people.

It’s about time. Dead people don’t have much in the way of expenses and there is no need to keep them on the dole after their period of eligibility runs out. The Administration realizes that dead people don’t vote much, except in a few districts. The money would be better used if spread around elsewhere where it can do some good.

The Administration did not say why they chose to include contractors in jail, with dead people. When you have executive privilege there are a lot of things you do not have to say. Come to think of it, I don’t believe convicted felons are allowed to vote either. Hillary launched a brief effort to restore voting  rights for felons back in 2006 . She gave up quickly, perhaps realizing that (1)if they were contractors, and (2)and they were in jail, then they must be Republicans.

The proposal appears to have universal support, as those affected have raised no objections.

ARGENTINA

EVA PERON

Juan and Eva Peron of Argentina were as corrupt as corrupt can be. They enriched themselves by boldly taking the people’s money and destroyed a great nation in doing so. A good friend of mine, the daughter of an important diplomat, was close with Eva Peron. At the time, nothing happened in Argentina without Eva’s approval. When a corporation or foreign nation needed government approval they, on occasion, inquired of my friend to know what Eva would like as an advance token of appreciation for her support.

Eva, or Evita (little Eva) as she was affectionately known, was beloved by the countrymen from whom she stole. It was many years ago. I was naive and disinterested in politics at the time, but nevertheless fascinated by the phenomenon that the more she stole the more they loved her. How did she get away with it, year in and year out? My friend explained, Eva takes from the people in ways the people do not understand and returns small portions with a great flourish in ways the people do understand. Simple.

The following is excerpted (and edited) from a post in Power Line today.

A reader wrote,

“In response to the notion that Obama has generated $20B from BP for US taxpayers, I’d like to offer some admittedly sloppy calculations.

First, you said yesterday US citizens own 40% of BP. Looking at my Schwab account right now (I own BP stock myself), I see their market capitalization presently stands at $99B.

If their stock price has fallen by 40%, that means the market cap was around $165B before all this started — the price of the stock has fallen by $66B. 40% of that loss, or around $26 billion was sustained by Americans if we hold 40% of the stock.

So the net cost of this drama to the taxpayers is $6B and counting. And that is assuming the $20B is distributed fairly.”

Power Line’s John Hinderaker added this comment, (emphasis added)

Modern politics consists largely of promoting the interests of those who are aware they are getting money, in opposition to those who don’t realize they are paying it. Here, I am not sure how the 40% was calculated, but it is likely that most of those who have a stake in BP don’t even know it, because it is part of a mutual fund or pension fund. So the administration can take credit for “creating” the $20 billion fund without worrying about which Americans contributed to it.

The concept of steal with complexity and return with simplicity belongs in Alinsky’s list of rules. But it is not there. Alinsky was not interested in self enrichment. He was a true believer, the ultimate ideologue. He lived for the battle, not for the success he thought it would bring.

UK PRESS TURNS ON OBAMA

The UK Telegraph had this to say yesterday.

The BBC reports of Barack Obama’s speech last night are about as derisive as it would be possible to be about someone you were describing only a few months ago as the incarnation of Hope and Optimism. Yes indeed, the romance is over. The British media have decided that it was all a cruel deception: Obama is just one more ranting populist president who will do anything to divert attention from his own failure to get a grip. And this is not just about BP and the fate of all those pension funds.

The British media were not victims of a “cruel deception”. By election day it was very clear what Obama was all about. They just were not paying attention. They were in love and love is blind.

Obama is a man of his word,…selectively. In the pew of Trinity Church he dedicated his life to the promotion of the tenets of Liberation Theology and he is doing  just that. Five days before his election he promised “I will transform America”. Joe the Plumber knew what Obama was all about. So could anyone with clear vision and an open mind.

OLBERMAN, MATTHEWS and FINEMAN TURN ON OBAMA

Barack’s Hopeless Speech

You don’t watch the Hate channel, do you? So let me tell you; last night MSNBC’s team O-M-F turned on B-H-O. The three cohorts were unanimous in their condemnation, not only of the President’s oil spill speech, but of the entire way he has handled the BP disaster. It is a far cry from making the honored Worst Person in the World award but it is a precipitous fall from grace for Obama.

Jump to conclusion – Hillary will win the Democratic nomination for the 2012 election. Here’s how I got there, (if I may borrow that phrase). Obama is slaughtering his party. Not a single Pennsylvania politician wanted to be seen with him at his recent speech in Pittsburgh. Admit it or not, he is going to be held responsible for the outcome of this November’s elections.

The main stream press is in love with Obama’s agenda and color but not happy with how he has dealt with the press. From pre-selecting those whose questions will be accepted at après briefing to attempting to bar one of them, Fox, from white house briefings he has shown more inclination to control the press than any president before him. If it can happen to one, even Fox, it can happen to any and they know it. As Obama’s star declines, look for Hillary’s to rise.

It takes 2 to make a marriage; a single woman and an anxious mother. It takes 2 to nominate a candidate, support from the party and a favorable press. Hillary has both. Barack may soon have neither.

When the press turned from Hillary to Barack in 2008 I predicted Hillary would lose, and she did. I see the potential for the same phenomenon now, but in reverse.

ABOUT AL GORE

Tipper and Al’s net worth grew from an estimated one million in the year 2000 to an estimated one hundred million 10 years later according to the Washington Examiner.

Al Gore has parlayed politics and his zeal for talking about global warming into an Academy Award, a Grammy and the Noble Peace Prize in 2007. He is a co-founder of Current TV, brings in six figures for speaking gigs, is a member of the Board of Directors at Apple, Inc. and serves as a senior adviser to Google.

From 1 to 100 in 10 years and still going, six figures for a global warming speech, and no jail time – makes Bernie Madoff look like a piker.

Mr. Gore has a habit of barring the press from his speeches. Google “Gore bars press” and “Gore limits press” for more instances of avoidance of press coverage. He also does not take questions or limits questions to 3 or 4 chosen from pre-submitted cards. On at least one occasion he required the press to leave the room after the first 5 minutes of his talk.

He was very vocal when Exxon Mobil’s ship ran aground in Alaska. He has been uncharacteristically silent on the BP disaster. Rumors are rife as to the reason. It does beg the question, why, when Mr. Gore has stood for banning offshore drilling and said: “For me, this issue is not only an economic issue and a health issue, it is also a moral issue,” For some reason the same morals do not seem to extend to the shorelines of our Gulf states.

Recorded at Mauna Loa for East Anglia Univ

If you were to smooth the red temperature line on the chart by drawing a regression (best fit) line back to 1998 the chart would look like an X, with CO2 rising and temperatures declining. Gore clings to the claim temperature are rising and CO2 is the cause. He is wrong on both counts.
