THUGS ON THE LAWN

The Age of Obama

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is the fastest growing labor union in North America and second in size only to the teachers National Educational Association (NEA). While unions like the AFL sit across the table from private industry employers the SEIU sits across the table from the US Government. When Democrats are in power there is but one side to the table.

On May 16, the SEIU and the National Peoples Action (NPA) group joined hands to organize and transport 14 busloads of people from Washington DC to the Maryland home of Greg Baer, an executive in the employ of Bank of America.

Some 500 in number, they trampled his lawn and blocked the doorway to his home chanting “greed”. Mr Baer’s 14 year old son, home alone, was frightened they might break in. He locked himself in the bathroom in fear and called his dad.

The invaders had no permit to demonstrate. There were no police to preserve order. There was no regular press to record the event. That was all according to plan. But there was one thing the organizers did not count on: Fortune Magazine’s Nina Easton happened to live next door. She photographed and reported the event.

COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION IN ACTION

Ms. Easton asked SEIU spokesman Stephen Lerner to comment. His chilling response was “People in powerful corporations seem to think they can insulate themselves from the damage they are doing,” By that statement he was claiming a right to organize an army to harass and intimidate any business man he deemed to be “damaging”.

The Washington DC police had assisted with an escort and safe passage for the demonstrators to the limit of their jurisdiction. They preserved the clandestine nature of the operation by omitting any notification to Maryland police of the approaching 14 bus parade. No local police were present to escort Mr. Baer through the insult hurling crowd on his property as he sought to reach his son, or to free his property from the aggressors.

Personal and sometimes violent intimidation were once familiar tactics used by labor unions in America. These same sort of tactics for gaining and holding power are among the means urged by Saul Alinsky in Rules for Radicals. Freedom from such tyranny is an inalienable human right. The first role of government is to protect its citizens against attack from within or from without. However, the work of our President was to teach community organizations like the Chicago based NPA on how to gain power by employing such tactics. “Houston – We have a problem”.

Random Thots will have more to say on this issue in future posts. When a union turns thuggish at the same time that it heads the most frequent visitor list at the White House there is more to it than one mangle lawn and one frightened young boy.

CAN JAMES CAMERON SAVE US?

Government calls on director of Titanic and Avatar to stop oil spill

Neither British Petroleum, the Federal Government, the U.S. Coast Guard nor even Obama himself have been able to stop the flow. Just when there seems to be no hope at all, the powers that guide us place their faith in a master movie maker. It’s Hollywood to the rescue.

It’s a stroke of genius. Anyone who knows how to tell someone else to photograph a ship under water should also know how to tell someone else to screw a cap on a pipe underwater. Modesty reigns in the White House so no one is taking credit for the idea. Some say it came from Biden, others claim it was Emmanuel who said “Never let a disaster go to waste. Let’s make a movie.”

We assume Obama would play himself in the saga. While the story would be based on real events it would need to be greatly modified. Actually that’s redundant; “based on” means “greatly modified” in Hollywoodspeak. Change is essential for there must be a hero, a villain, sex, tragedy and triumph. The hero, villain and tragedy are in place and triumph can be presumed. Sex is the challenge. Producers are considering changing the site to a land base rig where the explosive event could be filmed with shock and awe.

BARACK ON THE MEDIA

As noted in a previous post, President Obama touched obliquely on racism in his recent commencement speech at Hampton University. He also used the occasion to express his dismay for the “breathtaking change” taking place in today’s media.

“You’re coming of age in a 24/7 media environment that bombards us with all kinds of content and exposes us to all kinds of arguments, some of which don’t always rank all that high on the truth meter”

So now we know, Obama has been reading the Huffington Post. Then he spoke another truth when he said,

“Some of the craziest claims can quickly claim traction,”

There can be no question about this one. We covered a prime example in Spits and Slurs, Spins and Lies. We said then a lie goes around the world before the truth has had a chance to get its pants on. A couple of months have passed and the truth is still naked. Despite no evidence has come forth to support the claim and there being an abundance of evidence to refute it, the lie will go down in history books as truth.

OLIVER STONE LOVES HUGO CHAVEZ

Out of the land of Oz comes lavish praise for one of the worlds best known nation destroyers, from one of the worlds best known film makers.

The Associated Press reported Friday:

CARACAS, Venezuela — American filmmaker Oliver Stone said Friday he deeply admires Hugo Chavez.

Stone heaped praise on Chavez, saying he is leading a movement for “social transformation” in Latin America.

“He’s a soldier and he speaks from his heart,” Stone said. “His vision is huge. … And he will go down in history.”

Stone said President Barack Obama’s administration, in spite of initially inspiring hope, hasn’t done anything to improve U.S. relations with Chavez or his Latin American allies.

The director [Oliver Stone] defended his decision not to interview Chavez’s opponents, saying that people already hear those complaints and that the movie is not intended as a detailed examination of Chavez’s record.

Does Stone really believe this or has he sold his soul to the devil for the sake of his film? Some members of the entertainment industry live in a bubble within a bubble, utterly unable to see out and beyond, to the real world. Michael Moore looks toward Cuba and sees a utopia. Venezuela is fast becoming a basket case yet Sean Penn is blind to it, and so it seems, is Oliver Stone.

LOOK AWAY. LOOK AWAY

I found this on Power Line. I thought you would enjoy it, so here it is.

WHAT’S UP AT THE FARRAKHAN HOUSE?

‘Lil Abner, when confounded by something he did not understand would say “That’s confoosin, but it’s not a-moosin.” (If you did not know Al Capp’s Lil Abner you have not lived a full life).

Now here is an Obamevent that has me confused but not amused. It seems that Obama decided to visit an old friend named Marty Nesbitt. Marty lives a just a few blocks away from Obama’s Rezko enabled home, which according to the Chicago Sun-Times is in “Kenwood Park/Hyde Park”. I am confused already. I thought Obama lived in Chicago; now it’s someplace slash someplace else neither of which sounds like Chicago.

In any event, the Nesbitt house is right across the street from the home of black supremacist Louis Farrakhan. There is nothing confusing about that. It is Chicago, and it is Obama’s neighborhood.

Wherever the President goes, the press goes in advance and accompanied by a Secret Service agent. This day the press boarded their bus as usual and headed for the home of Obama’s old friend. After stepping off the bus a man appeared and told them they were not to step on the narrow grass strip between the sidewalk and the curb because that was city property. The press obliged, taking care to keep their shoes from touching the city’s grass. The man walked off, passed through the Farrakhan gate, picked up a walkie-talkie that was hidden under a bucket behind a bush and muttered something about the CIA into it. He returned to engage the Secret Service agent who travels with the press. Three more men arrived wearing “Wide or Die” T shirts. Now it’s getting confusing but not amusing.

A reporter asked one of the men if the mansion was Farrakhan’s house. The man  just stared back in silence, but when pressed said “I don’t have no comment.” One of the reporters googled the address and found it to be the home of Taxexemptworld.com and exempt from taxation as a religious institution.

In due course, Fruit of Islam agents come on the scene one at a time. Each was greeted with a ritualistic handshake, hug and double air-kisses. Eventually there were 22 of them. The reporters retreated to the van. Two of the men walked by the van chanting “Islam”.

Much later these Fruit of Islam agents started to dwindle away. Later it became known that a Rev. Gary Hunter of Detroit had called Farrakhan to say the reporters were “good people” and to request the Fruit of Islam agents be told to stand down.

It is a strange story that demands a punch line, but there is none.

This post is based on an article in the Chicago Sun-Times which may be viewed here.

CLINTON CALLS FOR MORE TAXES FROM THE RICH

Hillary has just piped up with her opinion that the rich still have too much money: “The rich are not paying their fair share. – Wealthy Americans don’t pay enough taxes.”

In support of her argument that income tax rates should be increased on the rich, Hillary cites Brazil, “Brazil has the highest tax-to-GDP rate in the Western Hemisphere and guess what — they’re growing like crazy.” One should never trust a Clinton. Income taxes are lower in Brazil, not higher. The maximum income tax rate in Brazil is 27.5%. In the U.S. it is 35% and going higher when the Bush tax cuts expire.

Random Thots readers will be quick to note that Mrs. C. quoted the “tax to GDP rate”, not an income tax rate. She knows very well that that distinction will be lost among the vast audience of her remark. Those quick enough to catch it will also be astute enough to know it signifies a low GDP, not a high tax rate. Furthermore, in no way is it a measure of relative tax on the wealthy.

There is a faction in this country that longs for America to be more like some other country. Hillary and Gore like Brazil. Tom Friedman at the New York Times has lamented time and again that we should be more like China. The whole Democratic Party seems to prefer we become more like Europe. Perhaps we should set aside a state like Vermont or Minnesota and set up a government with finances like that of Greece, health care like that of England, human rights like China and crime like Brazil then offer it as a refuge for those with such longings.
